Why we startedCauses for Animals (Singapore) was started so as to ensure every single dog and cat at every shelter in Singapore, large or small, registered or privately owned, would not have to worry about going hungry. Shelter founders would not have to worry about paying rent, raising funds, and looking for other resources.
CAS was founded in June 2013 by five individuals each with their own experience working at other shelters. It is a registered charity (UEN 201314186Z). Today, CAS houses 25 dogs with several cats in foster homes. |
Meet some of the team!
Christine Bernadette
Christine fostered a dog in 2003, and has not looked back. She began volunteering at Pets Villa as a teenager, and her staunch devotion to the place saw her work with Marcus to conceptualise and put in place the dog adoption programme still running at the shelter today. After nine years of work with animal welfare organisations, Christine is still going strong. Together with Marcus, Christine also has six sponsored dogs at CAS Sanctuary, all of whom are up for adoption. Christine is a secondary school teacher by day and a dog handler and stray feeder by night. |
Marcus Tan
Marcus has been a volunteer since 2004. He spent time helping with many different shelters. Eventually he and his partner, Christine, took over the dog adoption procedures at Pets Villa and conceptualised and handled the adoption programme still running today. Marcus is a full-time vet technician with a local vet clinic and a dog behaviourologist in training. |
Quek Guan Ling
Guan Ling has been with the CAS team for the last three years. She is now the volunteer co ordinator as well an adoption counsellor. Her day job keeps her busy with cars and more! Guan ling was first swept off her feet by Twister. Twister was a black Singapore special rescued from a bird farm that kept him caged and used him as a guard dog. Guan ling's patience, love and dedication saw her helping twister out of his shell and into the stunning dog he is today. He is now happily adopted. |
Prateek Sinha
Prateek is CAS on site Volunteer Co-coordinator. He is a familiar face on weekends and manages school teams and visitors to the CAS Adoption Centre. Prateek is excellent with the animals at the CAS Adoption Centre and has been a wonderful addition to the team! His work at CAS first began 2 years ago and he has since won over the hearts of our toughest dogs! |
Arfian Rogers
Arfian started volunteering with Causes for Animals Singapore (CAS) in 2017. He visited the Adoption Centre as part of an experiential trip when he was embarking on an Animal Management Course at Ngee An Polytechnic. Arfian fell in love with the animals on that visit and has never looked back! He has since been volunteering with us on a weekly basis. He helps with dog walking as well as managing the cats when we have cats at the facility. Arfian has since progressed to also being a pivotal part of the CAS Cat and dog TNRM Programme. His love for street animals and desire to manage the street population through an active TNRM Programme is truly an inspiration! Arfian is currently a Night Nurse at a local Veterinary Clinic. |
The CAS team is supported by a group of benefactors and members who have recognised their commitment and devotion to making Singapore a better place for companion animals.
